Archery is meh (though I never really tried maxing it), and magic requires too much effort but it would shine in one particular segment. Rinse, repeat.Īnd there are 3 paths you can go by, but in the long run, increasing melee is the best as it is most of what you'll do in the tight corridors.
Shields only blocked partial damage I believe. It mostly involved a few attacks then rolling backwards to evade counters. The gameplay definitely shows its age in the ground combat. It also has potion drinking animation and requires you to set things to a hot bar to switch to potions and such, as the only other way is to enter an inventory (real time). But this requires you to release the movement joystick. An overhead chop is down, down, attack while you can do a spinning forward attack with down, up, attack. There are special directional attacks you can do but it requires using the dpad to input directions. I wouldn't say it's as punishing as gothic though, where you'll easily get bodied by those chicken dudes at the start (movement is better and it doesn't have that weird combat system). Now that I've played Gothic, it's kinda like that in the movement is jank and the enemies can hit you hard. You'd want to go 1v1 as much as possible. Though like Razmos said, swarms are deadly.
It's difficulty mostly comes from the jank honestly.
